11/03/2003 Entry: "Replacement unit"
I am now waiting to get a replacement unit from HP. I find this to be strange since there was nothing wrong with the iPAQ hardware - it simply did not finish updating - this means only ROM would have to be uploaded manually. With my previous iPAQ I did this myself with the help of that "parrot mode" and a new ROM was uploaded in a matter of minutes so I see no logic in what HP is doing.
Well I can be glad they will send me a new unit because one pixel was dead on mine (hopefully it won't be worse on this unit), but what happens if I want to update my iPAQ when warranty is over? If they can not do anything else than replace the whole unit, this would mean I would actually have to pay for a replacement? This is crazy - I think it sounds sober if I say I will not update it after my warranty period is over. And this brings out the question why do we have Flash ROM? I have no idea why they removed that "parrot mode" and why they are not able to simply upload ROM file and get it done witnih a day.
Any ideas? Comments? You know of a solution?
